Can homeschoolers be involved with Excel?

Many of our staff and students have homeschooled in the past, so we really appreciate the homeschooling movement. We invite middle/high school homeschoolers to enroll for any classes they would like to take. They can also be involved in our athletics program.

Does Excel have chapel time?

Students have Bible Class/Christian Studies Monday through Thursday and chapel every Friday. There is a separate chapel time for elementary and middle/high school students.

Does Excel Highschool offer Honors/ AP Classes?

AP classes are dependent upon interest. High School students may take honors level courses in every subject, and some students take advantage of the Jump Start program with TMCC.

Does Excel provide before and after school care?

Extended care is provided on campus for an additional cost by the Community Life Center of Outlook Christian Church. Before care begins at 7:00am and after care ends at 6:00pm.

Does Excel wear uniforms?

Yes, we do. School uniforms promote community, team-spirit and attention to academics. They also created a sense of oneness and belonging and helps to raise students’ expectations of themselves. Wearing a uniform is a badge of school pride!

What curriculum does Excel use?

We use a mix of various publishers. Our goal is to find the best curriculum for each subject and each grade. Teachers have input as to which curriculum fits their teaching style and the needs of their students.

What time does school start and end?

Elementary School starts at 8:45am and ends at 3:00pm. Middle/High School starts at 8:15am and ends at 2:30pm

School Status

Licensing

There are two types of legal private schools in Nevada: licensed and exempt. Because of our convictions and our philosophy of education, Excel is operated as an exempt school under the provision of NRS 394.211 and as such is exempt from the provisions of the Private Elementary and Secondary Education Authorization Act. To maintain our exempt status, we are responsible for providing an education that is comparable to the public schools, and we strive to go even beyond the state and county standards. We are also accountable for the safety of our students by providing a quality facility.

Accreditation

Excel has received full accreditation through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and Cognia (the same organization that accredits public schools).

Student Body

Excel has a culturally and economically diverse student body. We are a SEVIS-approved school, enabling us to accept international students.

Academic Program

Excel’s middle school and high school classes are on a mixed block and regular schedule. Morning core classes meet 5 times each week and afternoon electives meet 3 times each week. Christian Studies meets daily.

Credits

High school graduation requirements are the same as Washoe County’s.

Honors Diploma Program and Honors classes are for students who:



maintain at least a 3.4 grade point average with no F’s



obtain the permission of the instructor



have the self-motivation to work beyond the normal course requirements and the self-discipline to do independent study

Students who graduate under the requirements of the honors program receive a distinctive diploma and a statement on their official high school transcript indicating they are graduates of the honors program. AP classes are offered based on student interest.
